Veronica Civa

Born in 1977 and residing in Frederiksberg, Denmark, Veronica Civa holds an international Master's degree in Urbanism & Societal Change from the Institute of Architecture, Urbanism, and Landscape at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen (2022). Her master's project, 'Svanegrunden - Nature-based Coastal Protection,' has been published in Byrummonitor, Klimamonitor, Foljeton, and other publications.

Veronica works as a seascape/landscape architect and blue biodiversity specialist at Habitats ApS in Copenhagen. Her focus is on using nature-based solutions to promote biodiversity in the sea alongside urban development. With her experience as a painter and illustrator, Veronica brings a unique artistic and visual communication perspective to her work, complementing her expertise in natural environments.

Veronica Civa holds the distinction of being the first appointed seascape architect in Denmark, and she continues to work tirelessly in the field.

2023 (August) Book Launch: ‘Tænk os om – Alternativer til Lynetteholm’

Contributed to the anthology and knowledge book ‘Tænk os om – Alternativer til Lynetteholm’. In the book, I present my alternative proposal for a nature-based storm surge protection for Copenhagen - 'The Swan Shoal.' Together with other visionary researchers and practitioners, alternative solutions are presented for the challenges that Lynetteholm is said to address.

2023 (May/June) Workshop RECREATION 1 + 2 Urban Development and Blue Biodiversity

Facilitated ‘RECREATION’ Workshops on improving urban development and marine ecosystems through Habitats. Organized impactful workshops ‘RECREATION 1' and ‘RECREATION 2' in collaboration with Bygherreforeningen and funded by VELUX Foundation. Engaged distinguished speakers to foster insightful discussions. Contributed to advancing environmental sustainability and restoring marine ecosystems.

Speakers: Mogens Flindt, Ph.D., and Associate Professor in Marine Biology at the Department of Biology, University of Southern Denmark, and Soo Jung Ryu, who has recently completed her Ph.D. in Urban Seascaping at Aarhus School of Architecture."

RECREATION 2

Speakers: Michael Palmgreen, Director of the Marine Knowledge Center in Malmö, restoring lost marine habitats in the South Shipyard Basin in Malmö. Peter Anton Upadhyay Stæhr, a marine biologist and professor at Aarhus University.

2023 (May) Assessor in Architectural Competition 'Living with Water'.

With this competition, the Copenhagen Association of Architects aims to focus on climate change, rising seas, and severe weather phenomena that challenge cities and settlements along the coast.

2023 (March) Build for Biodiversity Conference - Blue Biodiversity.

Event featuring a panel debate with several political and professional voices to clarify how the industry can progress with the serious work on blue biodiversity and the marine environment in Denmark (Habitats).

2022 (November) Symposium in Aarhus Urban Development and Blue Biodiversity
